    People in Architectural Shots

Student Couple at Merced Community College

People are not often in Architectural Photos

The Education studio of Lionakis an Architectural firm recently assigned me to photograph at Merced Community College. Their main request was to shoot the buildings with the students using the buildings. What a concept! People are typically not in Commercial Architectural Shots unless the images are for hospitality. Some would say it detracts from the architecture. But as humans, we are the reason the buildings are there and are used. I can see why this request is important. A vacant building in an image can seem untouchable. On the other hand, an image with the person too close, too lit up, or too ‘attractive’ in the frame takes away from the architecture. This was a great experience, as I had to shoot with both subjects in a complimentary –neutral position. This is a good challenge for any architectural photographer or portrait photographer.

These are the kind of photographic evenings that come a few times a year in the Sacramento Area and even less in the summer. The wind is still, clouds overhead adding “drama” to the sky, the west is clear and able to let the sun shine on the belly of the clouds overhead. It is the kind of evening that makes any photographer without their camera feel guilty. Luckily, on the evening of this picture I had my camera and I was in the position to shoot some of UC Davis’s awesome architecture. This image was shot On Canon 5d Mark II with the 24mm TS Lens- Bracketed for HDR and the Lightroom Preset named “BLACK II” was applied. View Larger and Purchase as Art here http://bit.ly/kQK12
